There are additional areas inland that you can drive but we stayed on the coast just from Monterey to Carmel. In total we probably spent about 90 minutes going from Monterey to Carmel. We enjoyed stopping a few times but didn't stop at any one area for a long time. We were told at the gate they would deduct the $10.50 admission off any purchase at the restaurants. The drive travels through the pebble beach golf course amenities which affords an opportunity to stop and grab something to eat. The area also includes 5 or more golf courses which you can see some of on the drive including the famous pebble beach. The other one is located just South of here near Point Lobos. Created as a tourist attraction for the Del Monte Hotel, the 17-Mile Drive opened in 1881 to day-trippers in horse carriages. Estimated time to complete: Four hours, but you could spend longer. This area is home to 1 of only 2 native Monterey cypress groves in the world. We had stopped in at the Monterey visitors center which had a nice map that showed the best way to access the gates. Youishare - 17-Mile Drive in Monterey The 17-Mile Drive is the most beautiful scenic drive road Ive ever seen. My wife and I took this drive on a Saturday afternoon in February. If you are not a resident or guest in the area, it costs about $10 per car to take the drive, but it's worth it. The sky was leaden and the wind blustering the day we drove the famous 17-Mle-Drive, which made us glad that the way to see it is to drive from lookout point to lookout point.
